HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF THE ARGENTINE FEDERAL POLICE (IUPFA) |
|
The history of the University Institute of the Argentine Federal Police dates back to August 2nd, 1974, with the creation of the former Higher Academy of Police Studies. Among the main causes that led to its creation, there was the need to make an area of higher education official. Such an area is meant to contribute to upgrading the police profession and to raise awareness about the scientific and technical training aspects of its actors.
In its beginnings, the Academy was formed by 4 higher studies institutes:
¬ Higher Institute of Police Education.
¬ Center for Higher Police Education.
¬ Institute for Applied Sciences and Techniques.
¬ Institute of Criminalistics.
In 1992, the Academy changed its name to its actual denomination: University Institute of the Argentine Federal Police.
Following the creation of the National Ministry of Security in December 2010, a process of change began. Such a process gave rise to a comprehensive statutory reform, thus transforming the IUPFA into the highest-level academic support of police professional training, specialization, and training system of the Argentine Federal Police. Through these reforms, the University Institute expanded its orbit to all the Academies of this law enforcement agency, in order to achieve training paths for police personnel, with strong integration and excellence at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels.
Moreover, a reformulation of the academic offer took place. The following courses of studies were created: The Bachelor's Degree in Public Security, the Complementary Bachelor's Degree in Public Security, and the University Degree in Public and Citizen Security targeted to Policing Activities.
Currently, the fundamental challenge of the IUPFA is to adapt to the new university reality, consolidating an institutional environment of higher education that contributes to the hierarchy of the police profession, orienting its academic offer of professional training, development, scientific research and extension to the disciplinary area of Security. |
